The 2016 National Professional Truck Driving Championships coming to Brantford
Brantford, ON – The best truck drivers in Canada are coming to Brantford this weekend to compete in the National Professional Truck Driving Championships. The competition takes place on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Brantford Municipal Airport. The action begins at 9:00 a.m. and the public is welcome to attend to witness the precision and skill of the nation’s finest professional truck drivers.
While the City of Brantford hosted the Provincial Truck Driving Championships in 2010 and 2013, this is the first time the National Professional Truck Driving Championships will take place in the city. Winners from the Provincial Championships held across Canada come to the national competition to compete for National Awards within five classes. The event kicks off with a welcome reception at the Best Western Brantford Hotel & Conference Centre on Thursday, September 15, 2016.
“The trucking industry is a large and vital part of our national and provincial economies,” says Peter Hostler, General Manager, NJH Transportation Logistics Inc. “Trucking in Canada contributes over 65 billion dollars to the Canadian economy and employs nearly 682,000 people. It directly and indirectly impacts almost every other sector of our economy.”
The National Professional Truck Driving Championships have been held annually since the 1980s, attracting upwards of 500 people from the trucking industry and considerable interest from the general public.
“Drivers from every province in Canada will begin to arrive for the competition on Thursday and stay through to Sunday,” says Donna Clements, Tourism Business Development Officer, City of Brantford. “Over 500 people will be in attendance for the event providing an economic impact of approximately $176,100 over the four days.”
A bid to host the competition was won by the city’s economic development and tourism department in 2015.
