Adventure Awaits on the Grand River

grandriverrafting

As summer begins to wind down, there is still plenty of time to take in the incredible natural resource that flows through Brantford. The Grand River provides many opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts and those looking to try something new. Local outfitters are ready to help you enjoy the river and have incorporated additional health protocols to make your day on the Grand a safe and memorable experience.

Paddling down the Grand River is always a popular summertime activity. And this year, as many people are choosing less social travel plans, water activities are very much in demand. Be sure to visit these local outfitters’ websites for safety procedures and available dates. Be a ‘tourists in your own town’ with these great staycation options.

Grand River Rafting Co.| 519-442-2519

This year presents a bit of a departure for Grand River Rafting. Their usual guided tours have been suspended, but paddlers are still able to rent equipment and discover the many wonders of the Grand River and its scenic beauty. All equipment is sanitized between uses to protect clients.

Since 2006, this family run business has been able to host over 1,000 people every day on the river. With options of rafts, canoes, kayaks, turbo tubes and stand up paddle boards there are many ways for the experienced paddler and beginners alike to take in some picturesque scenery. So if you choose to go solo or travel with your ‘bubble’, this is a great outing to get active and experience nature at its finest.

Grand Experiences Outdoor Adventure Company | 1-888-258-0441

The word “experiences” in their name is exactly right. It’s not just about floating down the Grand River, but building the memories surrounding that adventure. With moonlight excursions on the Grand and leisurely paddles with no portages, Grand Experiences has something for everyone.

Established in 1997, Grand Experiences Outdoor Adventure Company offers a wide variety of paddling and cycling tours, as well as a wide selection of quality Canadian-made canoes, kayaks, rafts and hybrid touring bicycles. Grand Experiences also provides self-guided trips to explore the river on your own or with your social circle. Written in partnership with the Grand River Conservation Authority, Paddling the Grand River includes full colour maps, access points, portages with aerial photos and points of interest. Also included are local sights, fishing, accommodations and parking. It’s a great way to explore the river on your own, while still getting some great information from the experts.

Paris to Brant Park

This trip down the Grand River is approximately 13km and will take 3-4 hours. Be sure to bring along drinking water, sunscreen and a hat, a few snacks, and water shoes or flip flops should you want to stop along the way for a quick swim. Another great experience during your trip is to stop along the shore at Whiteman’s Creek. Bring your craft out as you find one of the freezing cold natural water springs that meet the Grand River. It will definitely be worth stopping for.

Be sure to keep your eyes open along the way as you may be able to see some of the local wildlife, especially the beautiful herons.
