Brantford Summer Music

The Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts, in collaboration with Words & Music Brantford, is pleased to announce Brantford Summer Music from July 13-17, 2022.

Robert Missen, one of Canada’s pre-eminent concert producers, promoters, artist managers, and Founder of Words & Music Brantford, a new not-for-profit arts organization presents Brantford Summer Music, a celebration of all genres of music and the related arts. Brantford Summer Music endeavours to shine a spotlight on the illustrious history of this city and religion, including its First Nations and Underground Railroad heritage, and the musical stories of its fabled citizenry, including Pauline Johnson, Alexander Graham Bell, jazz legend Al Lucas, and comedian Phil Hartman.

Brantford Summer Music debuts on Wednesday, July 13 with a special Sanderson Centre Presents performance of Tomson Highway, one of Canada’s most gifted Indigenous creative geniuses. The legendary playwright/author/composer/pianist brings his acclaimed Cabaret songs “In The Key of Cree” with Saxophonist Marcus Ali and Powerhouse Peruvian Canadian Vocalist, Patricia Cano.

On Saturday, July 16th, the Toronto Mass Choir, Canada’s finest Juno-winning gospel choir, takes the stage under the direction of Brantford’s own Karen Burke. This concert will take you on a musical journey with a spotlight on Brantford’s rich Black Canadian history. Tracy Cain, Burke’s sister, will make a special guest appearance connecting the family’s deep roots.

The 2022 festival will conclude on Sunday, July 17th with an intimate lobby performance by Simcoe-born concert pianist Bryn Blackwood, recent winner of the prestigious Eckhardt-Gramatte National Music Competition. His program will feature works by Brahms, Scriabin, Canadian composer Brian Cherney and Afro-British composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.

Tickets are sold separately to each festival event. Follow @BrantfordSummerMusic on Facebook for more information.
