The Gordon Glaves Memorial Pathway Grand River Loop is a great spot for viewing all nature has to offer. The views along this 15 km stretch of trail are beautiful and if you’re lucky, you might spot a bald eagle soar down the river. There are many scenic lookout points along the route, but the view from Wilkes Dam is truly spectacular. Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant is also located along this trail. Walk up the hill to view their award-winning 16-acre greenspace and gardens.
The 14 km SC Johnson Trail connects Brantford to Paris and follows the abandoned Lake Erie and Northern Railway line. This trail passes through an open area of prairie grasses with a view of Brant Conservation Area and ends at Wilkes Dam. This trail offers scenic river views, significant natural areas and a direct connection to the grounds of Glenhyrst Art Gallery.
The trail between Hardy Road trail entrance to Oakhill Cemetery is a popular trail for local walkers and cyclists. As you pass by the grounds of the Brantford Golf and Country Club, be sure to stop and take in what are known as the “best views in Brantford” overlooking the Grand River. Continuing down the trail, you can enjoy a breath-taking sunrise or sunset from the bridge over the Grand River. During the spring and summer, you can watch paddlers enjoying the river on a hot day.
