Located at 1037 Highway 54 in Ohsweken, a short 20-minute drive from Brantford, Chiefswood National Historic Site is the birthplace and childhood home of renowned Mohawk and English poetess, E. Pauline Johnson.
The museum is managed by Six Nations Tourism, a sub-department of Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation. The historic home features two unique entrances – the south entrance faces the Grand River to welcome Six Nations community members who arrived by canoe, and the north entrance faced the road to welcome visitors from surrounding communities who arrived by horse-drawn carriage. These two entrances are a living symbol of the shared cultures of the Johnson family.
Chiefswood National Historic Site is open for tours during the summer season from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Don’t miss your opportunity to experience this amazing and unique cultural experience. For more information, visit www.chiefswoodnhs.ca
