"Free Sport for Growth" is all about giving children the opportunity to enjoy sports without any cost or hassle. They provide free sports equipment and access to local park activities, where kids can have fun, make friends, and learn new skills. But it's not just about physical activity; it's also about building confidence, teamwork, and community spirit.
The initiative is run by a group of volunteers who love sports and want to share their passion with the next generation. Some of the ways they help the community include reviving outdoor play for children, ensuring their safety and comfort, organizing donations of sports equipment generously given by the community itself, and raising funds by selling their own books.
There are two different books written by Ross Enslev, one of the leaders of this movement. "Our Neighborhoods and My Journey" and "Community of Sports Excellence" blend his own story with Brantford's history and involvement in sports. These books are not only informative and inspiring but also support a great cause.
Thanks to their efforts, more than 21 outdoor rinks have been revived, more than 60 parks and playgrounds have been improved in Brantford, and more than 100 schools have benefited from their programs.
But who are these amazing people behind "Free Sport for Growth"? They are John Gefucia, Rick Mannen, Jody Lombardi, Ross Enslev, Josie Mannen, and Dave Levac. They collaborate with local organizations and volunteers to organize events and maintain park facilities, ensuring they are welcoming and accessible to all.
"This initiative breaks down financial barriers, making health and fitness accessible to all," says Ross Enslev. "We believe that every child deserves a chance to play and grow through sports."
