As the school year comes to an end, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame is preparing to launch virtual educational opportunities that share the stories and triumphs of its members. The Indigenous Sport Heroes Education Experience is a national education initiative available at no cost to all Canadians with a focus on K-12 students.
This past spring, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame visited Brantford to conduct research for the project. In cooperation with local family representatives, this initiative will feature 14 nationwide Indigenous Hall of Famers to bring stories, artefacts and educational activities together in dynamic learning mediums.
The digital resource will be available at no cost to teachers, providing educators with the opportunity to integrate Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing and being into their classrooms. The digital multimedia exhibit will be released on August 9, 2021, to align with International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples and available to all educators in Canada at no cost to schools in September 2021.
The Indigenous Sport Heroes Education Experience is the first of its kind educational exhibit and seven-year initiative with the aim to prompt conversation about equity and inclusion, through the lens of sport. To learn more, visit marketing.indigenousheroes.com.
