One of Canada’s most gifted Indigenous creative geniuses is touring southern Ontario this summer in celebration of his 70th birthday. Tomson Highway, the legendary playwright (The Rez Sisters), author (his memoir Permanent Astonishment is a current bestseller), composer/songwriter and performer, is bringing his popular cabaret to Brantford, along with Patricia Cano, the powerhouse Peruvian-Canadian vocalist, and saxophonist Marcus Ali. Mr. Highway himself will be on the piano. Prepare to be astonished!

Gospel Music is alive and well in Canada! Toronto Mass Choir, co-founded by Brantford native, Karen Burke (Johnson) will take you on a musical journey which includes a spotlight on Brantford’s rich Black Canadian history. Tracy Cain, Burke’s sister, will make a special guest appearance connecting the family’s deep ancestral roots to gospel music in Canada which has its own sound, its own history, and its own vibrant community. Come and enjoy a powerful performance by this Juno Award-winning gospel choir and live rhythm section.

Simcoe-born concert pianist Bryn Blackwood is fast rising to prominence as one of the country’s finest young keyboard artists. A recent winner of the prestigious Eckhardt-Gramatte National Music Competition, Bryn is touring throughout the Maritimes this fall with Debut Atlantic. His Brantford program will feature works by Brahms, Scriabin, Canadian composer Brian Cherney and AfroBritish composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.
