Elberta Farms, located on Governors Rd. East at Highway 24 is a long-standing farm in the County of Brant. Offering fresh fruits and vegetables on a year-round basis, the family assists local residents in maintaining a fresh and flavourful 100-mile diet, from the first Ontario asparagus harvest to the last bounty of apples and squash.
In 1966, Joseph and Elizabeth Berta married and purchased some farmland to build a house and grow their own produce. The bounty quickly exceeded the needs of the family, so they started selling surplus fruits and vegetables on a table at the side of the road. Realizing that the family farm needed a home, Joe decided to name the farm after his wife, Elizabeth, and so it became Elberta Farms. Through the years, they expanded into what the farm is today, with the help of their six children. Their sons, Andrew, Michael and Stephen, are proud to carry on the family tradition.
Elberta Farms now has goats and other small barn animals that you can pet and feed. So, while you are here drooling over the delicious fresh produce and handmade goods, you are also encouraged to stay and pay a visit to the animals.
