Stories are at the heart of communities and cultures. It’s the way we make sense of the world around us, share our experiences and express our thoughts. Stories are also a way to remember and to teach.
A collaborative effort is taking place here in Brantford to highlight vibrant cultures within our community through a unique series called “Memories” presented by Brant Historical Society and the Canadian Industrial Heritage Centre. On the heels of the highly successful Memories event recently performed and presented on the Jewish community, Brant Theatre Workshops is now in rehearsal for the second installment of the series, entitled Memories of Brantford’s Italian Community.
With twenty interviews taped to date, Brant Theatre Workshops is developing a performance that they are hopeful to present as an all-day experience on the street in front of Brant Museum and Archives on May 15, 2021 as a drive-in style performance. The event will include the play, music, food, a walking tour of downtown, discussion panels and lots of fun for all in attendance.
A preview of this event is planned on March 27, 2021. Those interested in participating can order a special $20 Spaghetti Dinner from Rossini Lodge to be delivered and view the livestreamed performance starting at 4pm. With each dinner there is a trivia card that will be filled out for you and winning entries will be drawn for a $50 gift card. Order a dinner here and check out our free streaming link for the March 27 event.
In lead up to this preview Brant Theatre Workshops has been releasing one video of their interview footage per week via their e-newsletter, which you can subscribe to for free by emailing btheatre@rogers.com. For more information visit their website and Facebook page.
