The last Saturday of November usually brings a sort of Christmas kick-off to the City of Brantford as thousands make the journey down to Dalhousie Street to watch or participate in the Santa Claus Parade put on by JCI Brantford. With a new theme every year, floats and displays have the chance to win awesome rewards. The parade ends at Harmony Square for the Santa Claus After-Party hosted by the City of Brantford. Children and adults alike look forward to meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus, drinking hot chocolate, and watching the much anticipated Christmas tree lighting.
In September, JCI Brantford was exploring alternatives to their standard parade that would fit Public Health guidelines, but ultimately decided and announced on October 1st, 2020, that they would be cancelling this year’s 46th Annual Santa Claus Parade. The City of Brantford has also cancelled public events for the remainder of the year in order to keep community members safe.
Although these decisions are hard, the spirit of the season can remain alive in our community. Try bringing the parade magic home with a family craft night. Build miniature floats while sipping your favourite warm beverage, hang your Christmas lights, and light your tree together. If you’d rather be outside, try dressing up as Santa’s elves and delivering goodies to your neighbours. Take this year to make moments with the ones you share your home with and we’ll see you all next year on Dalhousie Street for the happiest holiday reunion.
