Getting an education should be rewarding and fun, and we want you to know about some of the great social activities available in Brantford that are perfect for meeting new people, building relationships and taking a break from the books!

Local Breweries

Craft breweries are known for the experience and atmosphere they provide to their patrons and the two local Brantford breweries are no exception. Mash Paddle Brewing Company is located in Brantford’s historic Artisan’s Village at 111 Sherwood Dr. and features a rustic taproom, outdoor patio and live music. Grab your classmates and head on over to try their Dutchman’s Alt or Unnamed Pale Ale.

Bell City Brewing Company is known for their Eureka Cream Ale, honoring Alexander Graham Bell, who discovered in Brantford the principle of which his most famous invention, the telephone, would work. Visit their friendly staff in the taproom for samples and start a (friendly) debate with your dorm or house mates on which brew is best.

Foster Some Friendly Competition

Golf is a moderately active sport that you can enjoy in small groups with fresh air and beautiful scenery. Brantford's Northridge Municipal Golf Course offers 9 and 18-hole rounds, a driving range, golf club rentals, and power cart rentals. You can book your tee times online and printable scorecards are available. Take a break from daily student life and create memories with some fun, friendly competition. You can also sign up for group lessons if you and your friends want to learn a new skill.

Historic Walking Tours

The Brant Historical Society is hosting a series of walking tours from September to November to discover historic places, events, and monuments. Did you know that Lawren Harris, one of the Group of Seven artists, was born in Brantford? The Lawren Harris Tour will teach you about his early life with glimpses of his family homes in one of Brantford’s oldest neighborhoods. If you are a fan of the supernatural, check out the Murder, Mystery, and Mayhem Walk in October. The Monument & Memorial Walk will feature stories of downtown monuments which are nearby to Wilfred Laurier University and Conestoga College Brantford campuses. Cooking With Local Ingredients

If you are feeling homesick, try cooking your favourite meal with a friend and bond over shared memories. Brantford has lots of options for fresh, local ingredients. Brantwood Farms, located at 251 Powerline Road, offers seasonal pick-your-own produce or you can stop in for ready-to-go items in the farm shop.

The Brantford Farmer’s Market, open Friday and Saturdays at 79 Icomm Drive, offers a large selection of local fresh produce, meats, dairy products, baked goods, chocolate, and popcorn (So. Many. Flavours.) Fill your recipe book and create new traditions during your time in Brantford.
