The sun is finally out, and hopefully here to stay! We live in a beautiful bloomin’ city full of gorgeous displays of flowers, sprawling parks, over 70 kms of natural trails, and The Grand River—a designated heritage river. As we say hello to summer, it’s a great time to adventure outdoors and nurture your physical and mental health.
Mohawk Park is a picturesque space and the tall trees create an abundance of shade which is great for a picnic, yoga in the park, or some leisurely walking. If you have younger children, you can fuel their learning by asking them to name the many different species of wildlife and foliage throughout the park. If you’re looking for something a little more active to get your heart rate up and “get your steps in”, challenge a few friends to a game of disc golf or “beach” volleyball (the sandy volleyball courts feel like the real deal!). Before you head home, stop at the main entrance of the park to check out a piece from Brantford’s Grand Exhibit. Mohawk Park is home to one of twelve to-scale artist reproductions from the Glenhyrst Art Gallery’s permanent collection. If you find yourself needing a refreshing treat after a day in the park, be sure to swing by Dairee Delite or OMG Ice Cream. You can’t go wrong with either choice, we bet they will both make your tummy say “O.M.G”! Both walk-up ice cream spots are happy to offer a delectable variety of cones, frozen yogurt, sundae’s and the goliath of all ice cream desserts – the banana split! Locals and visitors feel nostalgic about the Dairee Delite 50’s style look. OMG is just a short walk to Lorne Park, a beautiful, peaceful park to sit or take a walk and admire the manicured gardens. Did you know that the willow tree is the original tree planted with the establishment of the park in the early 1900’s?
Challenge yourself this summer to get outside and try something new or visit a place in Brantford that you haven’t been before.
