If you’re looking for coffee roasted right here in Brantford, look no further than Seventh Coffee Co. located at 111 Sherwood Dr. (Unit 2) in the growing Cordage Heritage District – home to many other wonderful locally-owned businesses. Seventh Coffee Co. started as a side business two years ago, creating hand-crafted, small batch coffee in a variety of flavours. They incorporated and launched in February 2020 – right before the pandemic hit Canada – and recently opened a retail shop.
The company is named after founder Mike Gatopoulos’ son, Jack. Jack was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Williams Syndrome. Affecting 1 in 10,000 people this condition is characterized by medical problems such as cardiovascular disease, developmental delays and learning challenges, as well as highly social personalities, an affinity for music and striking verbal abilities. The syndrome is caused by missing genes on chromosome 7 – hence both the name Seventh Coffee Co., as well as part of the “7” missing in the company’s logo.
Seventh Coffee Co. operates as a social enterprise; although it aims to be profitable, they also seek to improve the world in a meaningful way through both their sourcing as well as charitable donations. A portion of every dollar spent at Seventh Coffee Co. goes back to community causes that are close to their hearts, including Landsdowne Children’s Centre and Nova Vita.
They ethically source and they are active in supporting our community, but they also make really, really good coffee. Plus, they are the only company that roasts their coffee in Brantford! Seventh Coffee Co. currently offers 11 roasts with some fixtures and other seasonal products that rotate. We love their sampling packs and their gift subscriptions that give you a chance to test out their roasts to find your own favourite. Their gift subscriptions are delivered each month, for free, and you can choose from their fixture roasts, seasonal roasts or leave it up to the roaster to choose for you.
Follow them on Instagram and Facebook or visit their website to learn more about their upcoming programs. They are currently working on developing tasting flights and group tours to learn about the roasting process, so stay tuned for more information!
