If you have a simple pallet like some people (namely, me) then you know the best foods are sometimes the most basic ones. One of my favourite foods of all time is a simple turkey sandwich, and if you have ever gone out for lunch with me then you know this is what I’m looking for most of the time. Brantford is home to a lot of great chains owned by locals and also a lot of unique independent restaurants too. During these uncertain times, a lot of our local restaurants have been forced to close in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in in our community. We can still support these businesses (while treating ourselves to a delicious meal!) by ordering takeout or delivery. We have featured a lot of restaurants on our blog lately, but we’ve missed out on mentioning a few that boast some of the best sandwiches in the City (among other great menu items, too!)

Open late night (until 3:00 a.m.), this mainstay submarine shop in downtown Brantford is well-known to locals and Laurier students alike. Choose from assorted, ham, salami, spiced loaf, cheese/veg, roast beef, pizza, meat ball, tuna and much more for only $6.95 or make it a super sub (with a drink) for $10.95. Don’t forget to add French fries or onion rings!

Enjoy a delicious beef dip, reverse grilled cheese, pastrami on rye, philly cheese steak, pulled pork on a bun, apple and cheese panini or, my personal favourite, oven roasted turkey. This local family eatery is still thriving under the toughest of circumstances, serving the community Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Choose from pickup or delivery and select from a wide range of delicious menu options, including: wraps and sandwiches, wings, poutine, salads, chicken sandwiches and burgers. You really can’t go wrong with their mouth-watering options!

If you’re a pizza lover in addition to a sandwich lover, then you are in luck (or in serious trouble) when it comes to deciding between the two at Mercasa. Their homemade paninis are prepared with one of their homemade breads, a dough recipe created by one of the world’s top master bakers. Choose from Azzuri Panino, Porchetta Panino, and CR7. Each sandwich is served with homemade chips. Mercasa is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Saturday, offering curbside pickup and FREE citywide delivery while quantities last. Preorder online, over the phone, or through their app. Their modified menu during the COVID-19 pandemic can be viewed on the Mercasa website. Hint: Wednesday is panini day!

Pace’s offers delicious takeout including sandwiches, meat and cheese platters, lasagna, cannelloni, chicken parm, meatballs, and much more. They do require 24 hour’s notice, so call in advance to order or check them out on Facebook for their daily deals.

Open from Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., San Frano’s offers some of the best char-boiled hamburgers, steaks and hot dogs, and sandwiches in the City.
