Sport Tourism Canada – “Bouncing Back”

We know sport can be a significant driving force to the economic recovery post-COVID-19. Sport Tourism Canada works on behalf of all sport tourism players to see this vibrant sector truly be ready to start ‘Bouncing Back’.

The sport community’s perspective on COVID-recovery is critical to begin Canada’s response and preparation for a sport hosting and economic reboot. Sport Tourism Canada (STC) is currently conducting a research project, in conjunction with Destination Canada, and with the support of many industry partners. The purpose of this research project is to gain perspective on COVID-19 recovery to facilitate Canada’s response and preparation for a sport hosting and economic reboot.

STC assembled their 24-member COVID-19 Recovery Task Force in mid-May. Together, the group has created an outline for the return of hosting sport events in the country and released their report Bouncing Back in October. Bouncing Back sees a sport tourism industry that can be reimagined to withstand the recovery from the impacts of COVID-19 and will ultimately adapt and thrive in bidding and hosting sport events well beyond the pandemic

STC is now continuing this valuable work and in conjunction with Destination Canada, with the support of Sport for Life, are beginning the preparation for a sport hosting and economic reboot. This will be the most comprehensive industry-wide research study to-date inclusive of local, provincial and national stakeholders.

There three major objectives for this project:

To provide meaningful, actionable insights into the current state of Sport Hosting/Sport Tourism in Canada.
To enable the return of hosting and to restart local economies through sport tourism.
To provide the information that will restore confidence from participants, spectators and communities in hosting, attending and travelling to sport events.

The purpose of this research project is to gain perspective on COVID-recovery to facilitate Canada’s response and preparation for a sport hosting and economic reboot.
