The 2021 paddling season is almost here!

Plan now and paddle later! Shine up those good lookin’ water shoes and stock up on sunscreen because paddling season is almost here. Area outfitters have been working hard getting their kayaks, canoes, stand up paddle boards and rafts ready for you to enjoy. If you are an experienced water sport enthusiast, you may already have your own watercraft, but if you are unsure about the suitability of river flows for paddling, we encourage you to plan a trip with one of our local outfitters.

Winding its way through Brantford, the Grand River offers beautiful views of the rich Carolinian landscape and local spots that are great to check out when you are back on dry land, including Wilkes Dam, downtown Brantford, and the over 70km of trails that are ideal for cycling, walking, jogging and bird watching. However, if you like to enjoy the Grand River, we have found the best solutions to start planning for when the stay-at-home order is behind us.

Brant Conservation Area

Just outside the park gates of the Brant Conservation Area is a public use river access point suitable for canoes, kayaks and rafts. Enjoy a variety of currents and an array of scenery on the 10km route from Brant Conservation Area to the Cockshutt Bridge river access, located at 458 Erie Ave.  Bring the binoculars and keep an eye out for bald eagles overhead!

Grand Experiences

Whether you are looking for a guided tour or self-guided trip, Grand Experiences has several options including canoe, kayak and rafting trips plus all the gear you will need for a safe, leisurely paddle from Paris to Brantford.  Purchase a gift certificate from their preseason sale for up to 25% off self-guided and guided Paris to Brantford tours.  If you are looking to purchase your own watercraft, you can check out their website for details on their canoes, kayaks and paddleboards available for purchase.

Grand River Rafting Company

Grand River Rafting Company features trips for paddlers of all experience levels and makes getting on and off the river an easy experience. A new turbo tubing trip from Five Oaks to Brant Park take about 2 hours, ideal for families with children or those looking for a shorter route. Once you’ve booked your trip, be sure to check the weather updates online within twelve hours of your schedule trip time to plan ahead for any rescheduling and ensure that you have an enjoyable experience.
