The Brantford International Villages Festival is celebrating its 46th consecutive year of presenting “The World at Your Doorstep.” The Festival brings world-class memories to Brantford’s thousands of residents and visitors as they explore 17 festival village halls. This four-day festival, from July 3 to 6, 2019, gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy cultural entertainment, including music, dancing, traditional cuisine and beverages, costumes, and cultural displays.
The Festival helps to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of national and ethnic groups in Brantford. It started in 1974 as a salute to the 100th anniversary of the invention of the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell. Brantford’s first Festival included just four villages: Ukrainian, Dutch, Polish, and Hungarian. The event is volunteer-driven and this year, approximately 2,970 volunteers are giving 130,680 hours of their time to present this cultural festival.
Come enjoy a taste of many cultures, by experiencing everything from eating jerk chicken at the Caribbean Village, watching traditional Polish dancing, or having beautiful henna designs drawn on your hands at the India Village.
A $10 passport gives you access to all of the villages over the four days, where the exciting sights, sounds, and delectable food awaits you. Passports can be purchased at each of the villages during the festival. Starting June 22, 2019 passports can also be purchased at the Brantford Visitor & Tourism Centre (399 Wayne Gretzky Parkway), Best Western Brantford Hotel & Conference Centre (19 Holiday Drive), or the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts (88 Dalhousie Street).
Visit 4 or more villages, have your passport stamped, and you have the opportunity to win great prizes. Passports are required for each person, but children under 13 are always free when accompanied by an adult. Please note: not all villages are wheelchair accessible.
