It’s not every day that an Olympian, Hockey Hall of Farmer, and seven-time World Champion comes to town… but that’s exactly what’s happening on Tuesday, May 23 as Hayley Wickenheiser is coming to speak at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts!

Hayley is a 6-time Olympian, Physician, Mother, the Assistant General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, philanthropist, and a successful businesswoman.

Her commitment to life and sport has earned her seven world championships, four gold and one silver Olympic medals, and seven gold and four silver medals at the Women’s World Hockey Championships. She was Canada’s official flag bearer at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, was inducted into Canada’s Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019, and in 2011 was appointed to the Order of Canada. In 2021, she completed her studies and became a medical doctor, and published her first book Over the Boards: Lessons from the Ice.

Her achievements and exceptional determination both on and off the ice transcend business, leadership, and sport. The event is being presented by Ladies Who Lead, who say that the evening is sure to spark motivation and build inspiration in all who attend.

In addition, on May 23 you can join in pre-event activities at Harmony Square prior to Hayley speaking at the Sanderson Centre. The pre-event runs from 4pm to 6pm and is FREE to attend. It’s safe to say that the whole city is pumped, and you’ll find a ton of local organizations taking part in the pre-event, including:

  • Brantford Bulldogs players mingling with the community and playing ball hockey with the kids
  • Brantford Girls Hockey Association players showcasing their skills
  • Choir and line dancers from Joan Minnery Singers and Dancers
  • 15-minute ball hockey scrimmage games for the public (with two refs monitoring the games to keep it fun and safe for everyone)
  • Inflatable shooting pad, courtesy of BHI, who are also providing the nets for the scrimmage game!
  • Special menus at the surrounding restaurants and eateries, in honour of Hayley
  • Even MORE community organizations in attendance with fun activities!

Come out from 4pm to 6pm to enjoy the free pre-event, and head over to the Sanderson Centre to hear Hayley speak at 7pm. Following Hayley’s presentation, Hayley will be joined by Krista DuChene, Olympic Marathoner & Garrett Riley, Olympic silver medalist in Sledge Hockey, for an exciting fireside chat.

Don’t miss your shot to hear Hayley speak! Tickets are available for this event here.
