Canada’s most decorated female singles skater is coming to Brantford. The 2018 World Champion Kaetlyn Osmond, winner of three Olympic medals and three national titles, has joined the Brant Skating Club and will be part of the coaching team this winter.
The announcement comes just after the one-year anniversary of Osmond’s decision to remove herself from the competitive circuit. Since announcing her retirement from competition, she has been skating more in Brantford preparing for performances in Canada and internationally.
Osmond appeared at the 65th anniversary of Flashing Blades at Brantford Civic Centre in 2015, skating as special guest skater. Her Brant-connection is thanks to Lance Vipond, a past coach with the Brant Skating Club and Kaetlyn’s personal choreographer.
Now 5 years later, the young champion will take part in preparing the performers who take the ice for the 70th anniversary showcase in March 2020.
Said Brandi Schott, president of Brant Skating Club, “We are over the moon to add Kaetlyn’s exceptional talents to our dynamic coaching team. She is familiar with a number of our competitive team and can be an incredible influence and inspiration for all our young skaters. She has lived the experiences so many of our members dream of: becoming a World Champion and an Olympic medalist.”
During her senior career, Osmond won two world championship medals, winning gold in 2018 and a silver in 2017. In 2018 she became the first Canadian woman to win the world championship title in 45 years. On the ISU Grand Prix circuit, she picked up four medals and would go on to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix Final in 2016 and 2017, earning a bronze medal in 2017.
Echoing her comments from her retirement in May, Kaetlyn said, “Competition has been such a rewarding part of my life. Having a purpose and accomplishing goals beyond my wildest dreams has been incredibly fulfilling. No words will ever describe the emotions competitions carry.”
Moving forward with her career on ice, Kaetlyn will join three other new coaches in October along with returning leaders Lee-Ann McMillan, Kevin Stefan, Brianne Searle and Alison Purkiss. The winter season of skating will open October 7th and continue 23 weeks concluding in March 2020 with the Flashing Blades performance.

Since 1947, the Brant Skating Club operating in Brantford, Ontario has provided instructed skating opportunities for all ages, from the smallest preschoolers to competitive athletes. Skaters can participate in diverse programs including Power Skate, CanSkate and Star Skate training. Each program is overseen by Skate Canada and is designed to build on basic fundamentals. Skating programs are offered 12 months of the year in Brantford.
Skaters desiring to further their skills enter into competitive training, with on-ice and off-ice programs. Coached ice time can reach 7 days a week as skaters pursue excellence. The Brant Skating Club hosts much of its ice time at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, located at 254 N Park St, Brantford, Ontario.
