Mount Hope War Memorial
Public Art, Historic Sites
This monument was erected in 1928 as a memorial to the soldiers from Eagle Place, Brantford, lost in the First World War. The polished pink granite pedestal has the inscription “THEIR NAMES LIVETH FOREVERMORE” written in relief lettering on each face of the second tier. Each face has the same incised decoration: a maple leaf in a circular medallion at the top of the marker, a central, vertical sword, and a banner below that reads “LEST WE FORGET.” The marker is rectangular but tapers gradually to a slightly narrower, curved top.
