Paddling and Fishing

The serene Grand River, a designated Canadian Heritage River, is a paddler's paradise, weaving its way through our city along some of the largest stands of Carolinian forests in Canada. The beautiful river is one of the city's largest tourism assets and also links Brantford to neighbouring communities of Six Nations of the Grand River and County of Brant.

Paddling

There are many area outfitters nearby that make it easy to gear up and go. You can opt for a guided or instructional canoe, kayak or rafting experience where an expert teacher will accompany you on the trip. Experienced, recreational paddlers looking to launch their personal non-motorized watercrafts can access the Grand River at two designated River Access Points: Ballantyne Drive and Cockshutt Bridge. Note: The Ballantyne Drive River Access Point and trail access will be closed from June 2026 to October 2026 for construction and enhancements. There will be no vehicle or pedestrian access.

Fishing

Brantford’s unique section of the Grand River consists of slow-moving waters with a wide variety of fishing. The section of the Grand River between Paris and Brantford has been designated as Exceptional Waters because of its habitat, surrounding landscape, and opportunities for recreation, history, and natural resources.

Brant Conservation Area is nestled in a large bend in the Grand River, and species that can be found here include: smallmouth bass, walleye, rainbow trout, pike, channel catfish, and carp.
