A Taste of History

Taste your way through history by spending your day exploring some of Brantford’s oldest culinary attractions. Time travel through taste at our 50s-style ice cream shop, pick up local produce at the Farmers' Market, and visit one of the oldest restaurants in Brantford, a converted schoolhouse now repurposed to serve classic comfort foods with a side of nostalgia.

  • Start the day off at the Brantford Farmers' Market, which was established in 1848. This year-round market offers an array of products, including fresh local produce, a variety of meats and dairy products, delicious baked goods, seasonal plants and flowers, and much more.
  • Enjoy a nostalgic dining experience at The Olde School Restaurant and Piano Bar, a converted 19th-century schoolhouse with a menu of fine food and school-day memorabilia on display throughout.
  • Next, swing by Dairee Delite, a 50s-style ice cream shop that has delighted customers for over 60 years with frozen treats, from ice cream cones and banana splits to strawberry shortcakes and frozen cakes.
  • Stop by Le Chocolat du Savoie, a French country-style boutique specializing in a wide variety of premium chocolates, serving Brantford for over 30 years. Choose from a wide variety of handcrafted Belgian chocolates, chocolate-dipped licorice and pretzels, peanut butter cups, chocolate truffles, and more. The perfect spot to pick up a treat for later or a unique gift for loved ones!
  • Head over to Maria’s Original Pizza, a straightforward Italian kitchen turning out delicious pizzas and pasta dishes since 1968. Dine in or grab a pizza to go and enjoy a picnic at one of our many beautiful parks in the area.
